scientific hypothesis

A defining characteristic of a scientific hypothesis is that it is
MY ANSWER
A testable and falsifiable hypothesis is the hallmark of scientific investigation. Experiments can only be used to accept or discard hypotheses.
Unexpected experimental results lead to the formulation of new, different hypotheses. However, this is not a defining principle of scientific hypotheses.
A scientific hypothesis will either be supported or refuted by the evidence, but it is never considered correct or incorrect.
Only some scientific predictions are supported by evidence; other predictions are refuted by testing.
