hyperkalemia

  • Definition: Hyperkalemia means too much potassium (K⁺) in the blood — typically > 5.0 mEq/L.

  • Potassium is normally high inside cells, but low in the blood.

  • When it leaks into the bloodstream or is not excreted properly, it disturbs the electrical activity of the heart.
