Vitamin D

The skin also helps to synthesize vitamin D. Vitamin D (aka cholecalciferol) is synthesized when a precursor molecule absorbs ultraviolet radiation. This molecule then travels to the liver and kidney where it is converted to the active form of vitamin D. Vitamin D is an important substance in the body. It functions to help the body absorb calcium. It also works to help in calcium transport in the intestines.
